Puerto Rico
Puerto
Rico is a wonderful place to visit, but if you look deep inside you may find
things that u would never expect from such a beautiful tourist country. Puerto
Rico has a very big problem with education. They have the schools required to
educate everybody on the island but not enough materials like books, backpacks,
pencils, paper etc. Luckily thanks to the biotech academy we had the honor to
research and do something about that. My partner and I found a non -profit
organization called Mayaguez Children. We put all our research together and
used it to educate our community and ask for help to supply materials for the
children in Puerto Rico that would do anything for an education.
Mayaguez
Children is an organization but also a library. It asks for help from any one
who would wish to give up time, you may donate from the minimum of 15 dollars
and that may help a child’s education by supplying he/she with a book or two.
According to puertorico.com age 15 and over can read and write in Puerto rico
and with the hep of these donations the average age rank can go down to about
10 years old. This is why we decided to educate the community and get help to
collect money.
We
started off by making cards asking the community to let us educate them about
the need of school materials in our country, Puerto Rico. We asked for the
amount you would desire, anything counted. And for the the next few days we spent most of our time
giving facts and educating the community.
We
presented twice and both to families that also wanted to teach their children
something, they wanted them to see and listen what it is like to be in need and
how happy children can get if all u do is donate a few dollars for books and
school supplies. After we finished with this project it tought both my partner
and I that volunteering is the best way to help someone and learn about the
outside world yourself.
